Marvelous Montevideo
A friend of mine from when I worked for Qantas in Melbourne, Anita Marshall, was visiting her sister in Montevideo and had told me she would be there at around the time I was in Buenos Aires. I got in touch with Anita and she invited me to stay with her, her sister Suzie and her mum Marjorie at her sisters apartment. So I caught a ferry from Buenos Aires called the Buquebus (pronounced Book-E-Boos)to a town called Colonia in Uruguay and then connected to a bus to Montevideo. The boat trip took about two hours as the river it crosses, the river Plata, is the widest river in the world. Then the bus trip took another two hours.
ANITA & DINGA AT THE PARK
At Montevideo I found a cab and it took me to Suzie´s apartment. Suzie has a lovely three bedroom apartment on the top floor of the building. It has a lovely big balcony off the side with amazing views of the park and the beach. She normally shares the house with her dog, Dinga, her two cats Milu and Anu and her two budgies.
We all had a lovely dinner the night I got there at the restaurant across the street from her apartment and had some nice Sangria to drink.

DINGA SOAKING AT THE BEACH
The day after I arrived Anita, Suzie and Marjorie all went to the countryside to see a sheep show and visit some other friends. So I stayed at the apartment and looked after all the animals. Luckily for me Anita had left me some tablets to stop my allergies from making me sneeze. It was nice to be there and everyday I took Dinga for a walk in the park and down to the beach. On the beach she was allowed to go off her leash and have a good run around. She really enjoyed this and would chase the pidgeons up and down the beach. She never quite could catch them but I am sure one day she will. One day she was having so much fun running in and out of the water and chasing the pidgeons so much that she didn{t want to go home. Everytime I tried to get near her to put her leash back on she would race away. So I sat on some steps at the edge of the beach and watched her run around and around. Finally after about 30 minutes she came back over and was finally ready to go home.
DINGA LOVING THE WATER
When the three Amigo´s (Suzie,Anita & Marjorie) came back from the country we spent another two days together and went to the local market in the park on the sunday. They sell everything at the markets from hair ties to underwear, belts, bags, shoes, jewellry, and food. The markets are a very popluar thing for the locals to go to and it was very busy. Anita picked up a few lat things to take home with her and so did Marjorie.
So on our lat night together we all went out again for another dinner. I order Chicken Parmigiana with fries.... but something got lost in the translation and my chicken didn´t have any parmigiana sauce on it..... it was very dry and not so good.
Suzie and I took Anita and Marjorie to the ferry terminal to see them off and then spent the rest of the day walking through the downtown area and then all the way back to the apartment.
The next day Suzie departed and went to Sao Paulo for a convention for five days, so I stayed again on my own and looked after all the animals. The cats are very mischievious and one day when I was out the were in the study and the door blew shut from a gut of wind trapping them. They were very happy to see me when I got home because they had not had any food or drinks for quite sometime. Unfortunately for me they also didnt have there kitty litter box, so there was a very unpleasant surprise for me!
The day Suzie got back her partner Tim arrived from Australia. He had spent a few days in Buenos Aires with Anita and Marjorie before making his way to Montevideo. We once again went across the street for a lovely dinner and I had a Pizza which had some spicy peppers on it.... but it wasn´t too hot for me!
I had a lovely week and a half in Montevideo, there isn´t alot to do there but it is very pretty and it was nice to be able to stay with people I knew and do something nice in return for their hospitality. So after spending enough time there it was again time to move on, next stop Punta Del Esta.

Everyone told me I should go to Uruguay during my stay in a Buenos Aires rent .
ReplyDeleteUruguay is very near, you can travel in Buquebus, and in just one hour for example, you can be in Colonia.
